Despite these updates the new Xbox app does not include the ability to connect to a console and stream content from it. Initially the app was missing many of the social and community features of the Xbox Console Companion app but these were implemented in future updates. In 2019, this Xbox app was rebranded to the Xbox Console Companion app as Microsoft prepared to release yet another Xbox app for Windows PC's with integrated Game Pass for PC functionality that allowed the app to be used as a game launcher. The app is the second iteration of an Xbox Windows app, with the first being the Xbox One SmartGlass app which was succeeded by the Xbox Console Companion app sometime during 2016. The app's biggest feature, however, is the ability to connect to the users Xbox One console and stream all video output directly to the app. Xbox Console Companion (originally known just as the Xbox app) is a Windows app for Windows 10 PCs that allows the user to view and purchase Xbox One games, view achievements and captures from their games and access and post Xbox Live community content.
